Day 15 – Faith Activates God’s Promises
Hebrews 11:6 “And it is impossible to please God without faith. Anyone who wants to come to him must believe that God exists and that He rewards those who sincerely seek Him.”
Our relationship with God is built on faith. We are saved through faith in Jesus, we grow as we activate God’s promises through faith, and we fulfil His calling by trusting in His plans for us. Without faith, it is impossible to please God. The Bible is filled with His promises, but these promises don’t automatically come to pass in our lives; they need to be activated through faith. To have faith is to trust God completely and believe that His words are true. It's easy to read these words, nod in agreement, and move on, but I encourage you to pause and reflect.
While some promises in Scripture are guaranteed—such as His mercy being new every morning (Lamentations 3:23) and His promise to never leave or forsake us (Deuteronomy 31:8)—many others require action on our part. We need to believe that God is both powerful and faithful enough to fulfill what He has promised. Just like Sarah, who conceived Isaac despite being barren and beyond childbearing age because she trusted God’s promise (Hebrews 11:11), we too must believe in the impossible. What seems impossible for us is possible with God.
Many promises in Scripture follow an IF/THEN structure. For example, John 15:10 says, “If you keep my commandments, then you will remain in my love...” and Romans 10:9 states, “If you confess with your mouth… and believe in your heart…, you will be saved.”
All of God’s promises are available to us—they are a gift. But to receive them, we must put in effort, not to earn them, but to access them. Jesus has already paid the price. Our effort is about accessing the promises through faith. As we deepen our relationship with God, our trust in His faithfulness and power to fulfil His promises grows. The best way to strengthen your faith is to spend time reading and meditating on His Word. In doing so, you’ll discover the many promises He has for you.
Family Discussion Questions
1. What is one promise from the Bible that we as a family can begin to believe for in prayer?
2. Where do we struggle to unlock God’s promises? Do we lack trust in who God is? Do we struggle to believe that He is able to fulfill His promises for us? Or do we not know what promises are available to us? Discuss your struggles and help one another overcome them.
Response - Pray
To unlock these promises, Jesus tells us to ask (John 14:13)—in other words, to pray. Pray with confidence, knowing that what God has said is true and that He is capable of fulfilling His promises to you!
