Day 14 – And He Will Take Care of You

Psalm 55:22

Give your burdens to the Lord, and He will take care of you. He will not permit the godly to slip and fall.

There is no denying that we live in a fractured and fallen world. Today when we plug into a device we are instantly flooded with images of war, tragedy, trauma and loss. When we move beyond the parameters of our home, we can see the impact of inflation and a post-pandemic economy. When we take a moment to pause and reflect, we can easily be overcome by the worries of work, family and an endless list of things to do.

But unlike the world that preaches we are the creators of our own destiny, we can solve our own problems and that through striving we can reach an intended goal, the bible makes it clear to us that it is actually when we let go and give our burdens to the Lord that we will be taken care of; we will find peace (John 14:27), protection (Psalm 57:1) and everything we need (Matthew 7:9).

Intentional and consistent prayer in which we ask God to take our worries and meet our needs, partnered with prayer that declares and reminds our spirits that He is mighty and awesome, allows us to take our eyes off the bumpy road in front of us and instead lift our eyes to the place our help comes from (Psalm 121). We need to ask and ask again – Jesus tells us in Matthew 7 to keep on asking, and you will receive what you ask for.

Sometimes, though, we move through difficulty, and we are heavy laden with anxiety simply because we live in a fractured and fallen world – it is the human condition. Despite asking and seeking and praying, at times our prayers aren’t answered in the way that we think they should be. But despite living in less than perfect circumstances, we can take heart in the fact that we can give our cares over to God, give our burdens over to God, and He will shoulder them, making them lighter. Even when our circumstances may not shift, the Lord is Almighty and can shelter us in the shadow of His wings (Psalm 36:7) – He can make our burdens light.

Family Discussion Questions

1. What burdens have we been carrying that we could instead give over to God?

2. If you have been holding onto a burden, what has been preventing you from casting your cares onto God?

3. How can we intentionally remind ourselves to cast our burdens onto God?

Response – Reflect & Pray

Spend some time to reflect inwardly about areas of your life that are taking your emotional energy. Where are the tensions? What is troubling your heart? Write them down and pray though releasing them to God. When you have peace, know it is finished, throw away the paper.
